Meet Nick Chalmers
We’re excited to introduce our new Director of Music, Nick Chalmers!
Nick received a Bachelor of Music degree from St. Olaf College, as well as a Masters of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Minnesota. Nick has been involved with Catholic church music for the entirety of his adult life, beginning as a cantor and section leader at the Cathedral of Saint Paul in 2008. From 2013-2017, Nick was the Associate Director of Music at Holy Family Church in St. Louis Park, where he cantored, conducted the Schola Cantorum and Parish Choir, and Youth Choirs. Nick then served as Director of Music & Liturgy at Annunciation Church for eight years until June of 2025. A music lover of many genres, Nick believes in a church music that is beautiful, eclectic and, above all, brings the faithful closer to our Lord Jesus Christ in prayer.
Nick is the Director of Choirs at Chesterton Academy, a Catholic high school in Hopkins, Minnesota. At Chesterton, Nick has developed a passion for teaching about and creating beautiful sacred music with young, blossoming musicians. A frequent guest teacher and clinician, during the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 academic years Nick piloted a high-school choral residency program in collaboration with Minnesota Public Radio, and worked with young musicians throughout the state as part of the Class Notes program.
Nick sings and conducts professionally throughout Minnesota and the midwest. He was a founding member of the Mirandola Ensemble, and has been its Artistic Director since 2016. Nick has sung with The Bach Society of Minnesota, The Rose Ensemble, the Minnesota Bach Ensemble, Glorious Revolution Baroque, Transept, The Singers-Minnesota Choral Artists, and the Minnesota Chorale. Recent solo engagements include VocalEssence, the Oratorio Society of Minnesota, the Bach Roots Festival, the Schubert Club, the Church Music Association of America, the St. Mark's Cathedral Concert Series, and Border Crossing.
